![JAN23 What is Sustainable Energy](https://energytheory.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/JAN23-What-is-Sustainable-Energy-1024x683.jpg "What is Sustainable Energy?")

Sustainable energy comprises energy sources **that are inexhaustible** and can endure indefinitely. Sustainable energy doesn’t require renewal or replenishment. It fulfills our energy needs without any risk of depletion or expiration, making it the answer to our growing energy needs.

It is the least or completely harmless to the environment. No climate change is encouraged by using it and plus it is not costly. The cost involved is the one required for setting up ways to capture and use sustainable energy.** Solar, water, and wind energy are examples** as they are widely available to everyone. [Geothermal energy](https://energytheory.com/what-is-geothermal-energy/) can also be included in the list because it generates energy from internal energy sources of the earth, like geysers.

### **Difference between Sustainable and Renewable Energy**

The terms sustainable and renewable are frequently used interchangeably by people. However, it is important to note that there exists a distinction between the two, and that distinction lies in the potential for replenishment. As mentioned earlier, sustainable energy is essentially unlimited. It cannot be depleted since it doesn’t rely on being replenished, making it an everlasting source of power. The sun and wind are both examples of resources that do not need to be created or replenished.

**Renewable sources are a subset of sustainable sources** that include a wider perspective for a balanced energy future. Renewable energy is theoretically inexhaustible as it relies on resources from the earth that can naturally regenerate, such as crops and biomatter.

**Bioenergy, a renewable energy source,** harnesses the power of biological masses such as agricultural by-products like straw and manure to generate energy. **Ethanol**, derived from sugarcane and corn, serves as another remarkable instance of bioenergy. These crops could be grown to produce more energy, making them a type of renewable energy.

### **Benefits of Sustainability**

Transitioning to sustainability brings forth a wide array of advantages. Here are some top ways that sustainable energy can have a positive impact on our communities and planet:

**1. Affordable Long-term Cost**

Sustainable energy saves money for homes and businesses everywhere. They are not only easily accessible and affordable, but they are also more cost-effective than traditional energy resources like power plants.

**2. Creates Local Jobs**

Sustainable energy has the potential to fuel and empower local communities as well. Switching to local or county-based facilities and sustainable energy infrastructure **boosts job creation and economic growth**. Instead of importing fossil fuel energy, investing in sustainable energy facilities generates opportunities for locals.

**3. Decreases Your Carbon Footprint**

Wind and solar energy produce no harmful carbon emissions, helping combat global warming. It reduces fossil fuel use, which is worsening climate change and polluting the Earth.

**4. Public Health**

[Burning fossil fuels](https://ugc.berkeley.edu/background-content/burning-of-fossil-fuels/) causes serious health problems like breathing issues, cancer, heart attacks, neurological damage, and premature death. Clean energy sources **do not release any harmful pollutants** that pose a risk to public health. Additionally, they have no adverse effects on or strain local water resources.
