# Japan Unveils 2024 Feed-in Tariff Levels for Residential, Commercial PV: New Rates and Impacts

Japan has set the compensation for various solar power sizes for the current and following year. Following are the Japan’s 2024 PV Feed-in Tariffs for residential and commercial setup.

* Small residential solar installations **under 10 kW** are allocated compensation at JPY 16/kWh in 2024, with JPY 15/kWh in 2025.
* Slightly larger residential systems, ranging **from 10 kW to 50 kW**, are provided JPY 10/kWh initially then JPY 12/kWh in late 2024, reducing to JPY 11.5/kWh in 2025.
* The commercial and industrial solar installations sized between **50 kW and 250 kW** have a tariff of JPY 9.5/kWh in early 2024, increasing to JPY 12/kWh later in the year, followed by JPY 11.5/kWh in 2025.
* **Ground-based system** tariffs are between JPY 8.9/kWh to JPY 10/kWh.
* For more substantial projects **over 250 kW**, Japan schedules four auctions in 2024, setting maximum prices decreasing from JPY 9.2/kWh to JPY 8.98/kWh.

In Japan, the amount of money that solar energy producers will receive depends on how big their systems are.

In 2024, people having small PV systems that are less than 10 kilowatts, will **receive 16 Japanese yen/kilowatt-hour**. This rate would change to **15 Yen** the following year.

Rates start at 10 yen for residential or commercial rooftops with 10 to 50 kilowatts of power. It goes up to **12 yen** in the middle of the year, and then go down to **11.5 yen** in 2025.

Similarly, the starting rate for medium-sized projects (50 to 250 kilowatts) is 9.5 yen and goes up to **12 yen** before leveling off at **11.5 yen** the following year. For ground buried systems, the rates change from 8.9 to 10 Yen. Its compensation closely matches the size and type of installation.

Japan is a leader in the world when it comes to both fixed tariffs and its solar auction system. In 2024, there will be **four auctions for installations** that are bigger than 250 [kilowatts](https://energytheory.com/what-is-kilowatt-kw/). Ceiling prices for these auctions started at **9.2 Yen** and went down gradually until they reached **8.98 Yen**.

Japan’s 2024 PV Feed-in Tariffs for residential and commercial setup and this strategy emphasizes a proactive move toward alternative energy. It also formulates a structured pricing approach that encourages a wide range of solar investments. Japan has a clear plan for adding solar power to the country’s energy mix. It includes regular updates and clear differences between system sizes and locations, such as rooftop or ground installations.
