Refiberd, Mortar IO, AgroScout, and Eugenie.ai are the 4 startups from different parts of the world using AI to solve climate issues. With the help of Google for Startups Accelerator: Climate Change program and AI is solving climate change challenges. They are incorporating AI in tracking, mapping, and sorting required information.

AI or artificial intelligence is serving diverse purposes and some startups are using it to solve one of the biggest challenges of the world – climate change. Though there is not an ultimate solution to global warming, startups are responsibly developing AI solutions to tackle some of the toughest problems related to the same.

4 startups from the [Google for Startups Accelerator: Climate Change programs](https://startup.google.com/accelerator/) in North America and Europe are making the best possible use of AI technology.

**1. Agro Scout: Monitoring crop development**

An Israel-based startup follows its vision of a world where food is grown in a more sustainable way. [Simcha Shore](https://il.linkedin.com/in/simcha-shore-agroscout), founder and CEO of [AgroScout](https://agro-scout.com/) said, *“Our platform uses AI to monitor crop development in real-time, to more accurately plan processing and manufacturing operations across regions, crops and growers.*

*By utilizing AI technology, AgroScout detects pests and diseases early, allowing farmers to apply precise treatments that reduce agrochemical use by up to 85%. This innovation helps minimize the environmental damage caused by traditional agrochemicals, making a positive contribution towards sustainable agriculture practices.”*

The company with support from Google for Startups Accelerator took **2.4 million images across 145,000 acres** and 20 counties till date.

**Do you know** – Our food system is responsible for around 30% of GHG emissions.

In the areas of the world with the greatest food insecurity, the increasing effects of climate change could further reduce crop production.

**2. Eugenie.ai: Reducing manufacturing emissions**

The company is an emission intelligence platform specially designed for helping manufacturers working in the metal and mining, gas, and oil industries to decarbonize their operations.

[Soudip Roy Chowdhury](https://in.linkedin.com/in/soudiprc), founder and CEO of [Eugenie.ai](https://eugenie.ai/), says, *“Our goal is to help companies achieve higher environmental regulation compliance with accelerated sustainable growth while improving their bottom line.”*

This software-as-a-service (SaaS) combines data from satellite images with a machine. This data is then processed to provide a comprehensive overview of operations. With AI, they analyze this data to help companies track, trace, and reduce their [CO2 emissions](https://energytheory.com/worlds-first-carbon-neutral-backpack-that-captures-co2-emissions-to-increase-its-strength/) by 20-30%.

Soudip Roy Chowdhury further said on this, *“We firmly believe that together we can make a significant impact and create a world that is not only greener, but also more sustainable for generations to come.”*

**3. Mortar IO: Decarbonizing thousands of buildings**

This London-based company uses AI to digitalize and plan accurately to reduce carbon emissions for thousands of buildings. Through this automated digital audit, businesses are able to understand how to **achieve net-zero for their entire real estate portfolios** in minutes. Usually, this process used to take months.

With Google for Startups Accelerator: Climate Change program support, the company hopes to add an AI-powered chatbot feature to automate energy audit tasks. This will also help in delivering a tailored experience for their customers to reduce CO2 emissions and tackle climate change challenges.

**Do you know** – Construction processes and buildings are majorly responsible for around 40% of carbon emissions in the world

[Josephine Bromley](https://uk.linkedin.com/in/josephinebromley), COO and co-founder of [Mortar IO](https://www.mapmortar.io/) says, *“This is more than every single car, train and plane on the planet. Considering that 80% of the buildings that will be standing in 2050 are already built, decarbonizing existing buildings is the true problem to solve.*

*At Mortar IO, we believe catalyzing retrofits will unlock an accelerated path to net-zero for every building and help secure the health and happiness of our planet.”*

**4. Refiner: Ending global textile waste**

This California-based startup was founded by a team of women engineers during the pandemic. They use a patent-pending AI robotics-based [recycling](https://energytheory.com/with-20-5-million-green-li-ion-is-all-recharged-to-scale-up-its-battery-recycling-tech/) system.

With it they accurately sort textiles by material, including hard-to-separate fabric blends. This way AI is solving climate change challenges and reducing CO2 emissions in the textile industry.

**Do you know** – Every year 186 million pounds of textile waste is generated and out of it less than 1% is recycled into new clothing.

[Sarika Bajaj](https://www.linkedin.com/in/sarikabajaj), co-founder and CEO of [Refiberd](https://refiberd.com/) said, *“We have no requirements on the waste we accept and can handle everything from industrial fabric rolls to donated clothing to small fabric scraps.* *Then we use AI to sort the waste by material and color, and automatically remove any buttons, zippers, or other contaminants in the recycling process.*

*Based on the material and color of each sorted section of textile waste, we send the processed waste to the recycler that can preserve most of the material.”*
