Are you wondering about using ACs in winter? Well, this is the most pondered topic among the users. The ideal temperature is something that can be optimized as per the utility. Let us find out what temperature to set air conditioner in winter without compromising your comfort. ## **What Temperature to Set Air Conditioner in Winter?** The ideal AC temperature in winter is supposed to be around **18 – 24 ° C** (64.4 – 75.2 ° F). Even though it varies from person to person, it is advised that the temperature must be somewhere between 18-24 ° C. For babies, it is between 20 – 22 ° C. ### **Is 22 Degrees Cold For AC?** 22 degrees Celsius (71.6 degrees Fahrenheit) can be **considered as apt**. If the temperature is adjusted to be warmer, then it can lead to more energy usage. There are other factors as well which determine the ideal temperature: - The brand of air conditioner - Age of person - Climatic conditions These factors affect the ideal temperature, making it different according to specific conditions. **Also See**: [What Temperature Should I Set My Air Conditioner in Summer for Good Night Sleep?](https://energytheory.com/what-temperature-should-i-set-my-air-conditioner-in-summer-for-good-night-sleep/) ### **Can I Use AC to Heat the Room in Winter?** This totally **depends on the type of Air Conditioner** you are using. If your AC is reversible, then it becomes possible to change the mode from cooling to heating, and it can be used for the purpose of heating. But if your AC is cooling only AC, then you cannot use it for the purpose of heating.  ### **Is 72 a Good Temperature for Heat in the Winter?** On an overall basis, 72 ° F (22.2 ° C) is an **ideal temperature.** If you want to regulate your energy usage, then it is perfect for sure. Temperatures warmer than this can immensely affect your electricity consumption. **Also Read:** [Solar Underfloor Heating Guide: Everything You Need to Know](https://energytheory.com/solar-underfloor-heating-guide/) ### **Does Running an Air Conditioner in Cold Weather Damage it?** ![JAN23 What Temperature to Set Air Conditioner in Winter 1](https://energytheory.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/JAN23-What-Temperature-to-Set-Air-Conditioner-in-Winter-1.jpg) There is certainly** zero percentage of damage** in the case of reversible air conditioners. Even if you are using cooling-only AC, then turning on the fan mode can help. In general, air conditioners are designed according to the condition when the outer temperature is higher than the inner temperature. So, if the Air Conditioner is used intelligently during winter, then it causes no harm. The ideal AC temperature in winter is not supposed to be less than 15 ° C as it can cause severe damage. **Also See:** [How to Conserve Heat Energy at Home](https://energytheory.com/how-to-conserve-heat-energy-at-home/) ### **What Temperature to Set Air Conditioner During Summer and Winter in Australia?** During summer in Australia, the ideal [temperature](https://energytheory.com/what-is-ambient-temperature/) for AC is **23 – 24 °** C**** (73.4-75.2 ° F). If you are worried about cost-cutting, then the temperature has to be around 25–27 degrees Celsius (77-80.6 degrees Fahrenheit). So, what temperature to set the AC in winter? For winters the reverse cycle heating should be set to around** 18 – 20** °** C,** depending on your climate and area. **Also Read:** [What is HVAC (Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning)?](https://energytheory.com/what-is-hvac-heating-ventilation-and-air-conditioning/) ### **What Temperature to Set Air Conditioner in Winter Canada?** The ideal temperature during winter in Canada is **18–22 degrees Celsius** (64.4-71.6 degrees Fahrenheit). If you want to [control energy consumption](https://link.springer.com/chapter/10.1007/978-3-642-35264-5_38), then the temperature can be reduced to 2 – 3 degrees Celsius. > Cross-Reference: [All Weather ACs With Hot And Cold Feature: Top Picks](https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/most-searched-products/electronics/air-conditioners/hot-and-cold-air-conditioners-for-all-seasons/articleshow/73273606.cms) ### **What Temperature to Set Air Conditioner When Away in Winter?** ![Air conditioner](https://energytheory.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/Air-Conditioner.jpg) When you are away from home for a few days and thinking about energy consumption and power loss, then the air conditioners can be adjusted to comparatively lower temperatures. The thermostat temperature has to be around **10–15 degrees Celsius** (50-60 degrees Fahrenheit).
