In the sun-soaked state of Arizona, beyond the benefits of driving an electric car, did you realize that additional savings can be unlocked through incentives specifically designed for EV charging? Let us find out more about Arizona incentives and rebates along with registration costs.

Arizona Incentives for Electric Cars

While the costs of electric vehicles (EVs) have been reduced, numerous consumers still encounter challenges when it comes to purchasing EVs and gaining access to the necessary charging infrastructure. Arizona has both infrastructure and charging incentive programs from state and private firms. The residents may not discover state-sponsored Arizona incentives for electric cars, but utility companies in Arizona provide incentives for individuals installing home EV chargers or residential solar systems.

Arizona State Incentives

EV incentive: EV rebate Arizona

The state of Arizona offers these incentives for electric cars to encourage green transportation:

1. Alternative Fuel Vehicle (AFV) Parking Incentive

Drivers of dedicated Alternative Fuel Vehicles (AFVs) have the privilege of parking without facing penalties in designated carpool operator parking areas, as long as the vehicle is powered by alternative fuels. These recognized alternative fuels include Propane, Natural gas, Electricity, and Hydrogen.

2. High Occupancy Vehicle (HOV) Lane Exemption

HOV is a restricted traffic lane that is exclusively designated for vehicles with a driver and a minimum of one passenger, including carpool vehicles, vanpools, and transit buses. Arizona provides an incentive for electric vehicle owners by allowing eligible EVs to use HOV lanes without meeting the standard occupancy requirements. To benefit from the HOV lane exemption, eligible electric vehicle owners may need to get the EV registered and licensed by the state.

3. Alternative Fuel and Alternative Fuel Vehicle (AFV) Use Tax Exemption

Electric cars when converted from diesel will get a complete exemption of use tax. Under Arizona state legislation, alternative fuel vehicles qualify for a complete 100% use tax exemption if the vehicle was originally manufactured as a diesel vehicle and subsequently converted to operate on alternative fuel. The recognized alternative fuels are propane, natural gas, electricity, hydrogen, and blends of hydrogen with propane or natural gas.

4. Zero Emission Vehicle Emissions Test Exemption

Arizona provides an emissions test exemption for Zero Emission Vehicles and does not mandate annual emissions testing for registered electric vehicles. However, alternative fuel vehicles, except electric and hydrogen vehicles, commuting into the cities of Phoenix or Tucson, must undergo emissions testing as part of the registration process.
