Like a coat of paint, weatherization is a shell wrapped around your home that ensures comfort both during the summer and winter. In addition, it helps in the reduction of energy waste costs which are caused by badly insulated or leaky houses.

Weatherizing your home involves implementing upgrades and repairs that will significantly boost its energy efficiency and reduce overall energy consumption. Some basic ones are mentioned below:

Applying for Weatherization

The following is the process of applying for weatherization.

  • Fill out an application for Fuel Assistance or Electric Assistance. It is a dual application that is also used for applying weatherization.
  • Answer yes to the question – Are you interested in receiving weatherization services?

Eligibility Criteria for Weatherization Assistance

If your fuel assistance application indicates that your Federal Poverty Guidelines (FPG) is equal to or less than 200%, you also meet the eligibility requirements for Weatherization.

  • Income determines eligibility, with a focus on the elderly, disabled individuals, and families with children under 6 receiving priorities.
  • Weatherization is available to homeowners, mobile homeowners, and renters alike.
  • In order to have your rental property weatherized, it is vital to obtain the landlord’s consent. Additionally, a minimum of 66% of the building’s occupants must be enrolled in fuel or electric assistance programs.
