We have witnessed the transition from conventional to electric vehicles, and in the last decade, it was the highest. In 2023, there have been more than 250,000 new registrations per week, which is 6 to 10 times more than a decade ago. However, as per a recent survey, half of Indian EV owners want to switch back to conventional cars.
According to the new survey conducted by Park+, 51% of current EV owners are considering switching back to conventional vehicles. The survey included opinions of 500 electric vehicle owners across Bangalore, Delhi NCR, and Mumbai. This is said that due to dissatisfaction among EV owners, they are contemplating switching back.
Highlights from the Survey
- India has a network of more than 20,000 charging stations yet 88% of the respondents complained about persistent charging anxiety.
- People are still struggling with the reliability and accessibility of charging stations. 73% of people are concerned about the maintenance costs and unclarity of repairs.
- Then the resale value of EVs falling below 33% is disheartening the public.
- Leading car models as per people’s choice are Tata Punch EV (19% popularity) and Tata Nexon EV (61% popularity).
According to the founder and CEO of Park+, Amit Lakhotia there is an urgent need for a strong and smart EV charging infrastructure in India, to reduce frustrations and anxiety among the owners.
He also mentioned that, even though range anxiety has decreased, charging anxiety is high and becoming a significant issue.
