EDP Renewables just started up a big solar power plant in Portugal. The Cerca facility, which is in the regions of Alenquer and Azambuja, has an impressive 202 megawatts of power capacity and is now the biggest solar project in Europe for the company. There are more than 310,000 bifacial panels at the power station. These panels effectively collect sunlight from both sides, which makes the production of clean energy more efficient.
It’s amazing that the solar installation can power almost 100,000 homes. This accomplishment is equal to about 1% of the country’s people. The energy made at the Cerca plant is helpful in protecting the environment in a big way. It could stop 170,000 tons of carbon dioxide emission each year.
EDP Renewables Activates 202 MW Solar Plant in Portugal and with the opening of Cerca, they now have 540 megawatts of solar power in Portugal, which is a new high. Duarte Bello, the company’s European Chief Operating Officer, is committed to future solar projects. This is a sign of hope for the future of sustainable energy development. There are a lot of solar projects coming up that will help the region’s clean energy progress a lot.
EDP’s Goals and Additional Support
The company has a big goal: by 2026, they want to add another gigawatt of renewable energy operations in Portugal. These projects are in line with a shift in global investment toward big solar projects and distributed energy production.
Also, Portugal’s move toward a greener economy is getting a lot of support. A big grant program worth 350 million euros has been approved by the European Commission. This project will expectedly increase the production of renewable energy equipment in the country, which will speed up its progress toward a net-zero economy.
Portugal’s combined efforts show how seriously the country takes protecting the environment, which will eventually help the world’s search for cleaner, renewable energy sources.
