Indian Railways has reached a significant milestone with record output in the fiscal year 2022-23. Up to January 31, Indian railways produce a record-breaking 785 electric locomotives by end of January 2023 along with 4,175 LHB coaches. The railways also have bold intentions to reclaim 40 percent of the country’s freight market share in the following ten years.
Chittaranjan Locomotive Works (CLW) in Chittaranjan, Banaras Locomotive Works (BLW) in Varanasi, and Patiala Locomotive Works (PLW) in Patiala are the three production facilities of Indian Railways. According to reports, Chittaranjan Locomotive Works (CLW) produced 344 locomotives, Banaras Locomotive Works (BLW) produced 286 locomotives, and Patiala Locomotive Works (PLW) produced 155 locomotives until January 31 of FY 2022-23.
The three coach manufacturing units – ICF, RCF, and MCF – produce Vande Bharat, MEMUs, Vistadome, LHB, EMUs, and other coaches, whereas the 3 locomotive manufacturing units produce WAG9 and WAP7 advanced electric locos. It also produces contemporary, energy-efficient locomotives with 12000hp and 9000hp.
Raosaheb Patil Danve, Federal Minister of State for Railways, Coal, and Mines, stated on Twitter “With the production of 785 locomotives till January 31 in the financial year 2022-23, Indian Railways has accelerated the locomotive production in the country, which is strengthening the nation’s resolve to become self-reliant every dayâ€. Indian railways produce a record-breaking 785 electric locomotives by end of January 2023 is one of the biggest achievements of Indian infrastructure within one year.
All railway manufacturing units reached record production in the fiscal year 2021-22. LHB Coach Production climbed by 45 percent last fiscal year, while Loco Production increased by 34 percent. The LHB coach provides customers with safer and more pleasant rides.
LHB coaches outperform typical ICF-type coaches in terms of technology, ride quality, aesthetics, and safety features. Rail Coach Factory (RCF) has manufactured 1221 coaches, Integral Coach Factory (ICF) has manufactured 1891 vehicles, and Modern Coach Factory (MCF) has manufactured 1063 coaches so far.
