There is great excitement as PM Modi inaugurates two solar power plants for Jal-Kal and Konia SPS in Varanasi. Apart from giving potable water to city residents and removing sewage, Jal-Bhelupur Kal’s campus and Konia sewage pumping station (SPS) will shortly begin generating power via newly built solar power plants as well. The foundation of the project was laid in July 2021.

These two solar power plants are part of the 19 power projects that are to be inaugurated this month by the PMO. A solar power plant costs Rs 17.24 Crore that has been established on the Jal-Kal campus, with 3704 solar panels and 10 solar trees installed. The waste treatment plant at Jal-Kal consumes 24,000 units per day, whereas the Konia station consumes 10,000 units.

The solar power plants at Jal-Kal have a capacity of 2.2 MW while the Konia stations have a capacity of 0.8 MW. The power provided by these plants would save Jal-Kal 9,000 units per day, while Konia station would save 3,300 units.

The power generated by the two plants will be sent into the electrical department’s system. Analysts also stated that it will significantly reduce the electricity consumption of Jal-Kal’s treatment facility and sewage pumping station.

That would save more than one-third of both agencies’ daily power costs, the government said, adding that electricity produced by their solar plants will be sent into the electrical department’s system.

He stated that power consumption through electricity department feeders would continue, but that power generated by solar plants would not be utilized directly by the waste treatment plants or sewage pumping facilities.
