The all new Powerful Ultium home energy bundles by GM Energy are an all-in-one solution for power storage, backup, and EV charging. These innovative packages offer comprehensive solutions for both Electric Vehicle owners and homeowners. It comes with advanced features like the PowerShift Charger, Ultium Home V2H Enablement Kit, and PowerBank storage units.
In October of last year, General Motors unveiled its new business arm known as GM Energy. This innovative venture aims to deliver energy storage solutions and top-notch management products and services. These included stationary energy storage batteries for homes and businesses, combining solar power, and using vehicles for both home and electricity grid. There would be a division in the offerings, namely Ultium Home and Ultium Commercial offerings.
While the commercial aspect has been in operation for a while now, there has been a delay in launching the household products as originally planned. Now we have information about the first set of home energy solutions. GM Energy has bundled them into Ultium Home packages that serve three purposes.
The Ultium Home Energy System is an all-in-one solution that not only charges electric vehicles but also stores energy and ensures backup power for homes. This system utilizes energy from the EV or a battery array, providing a comprehensive and reliable solution for all energy needs at home. The storage system is featured with:
- A GM PowerShift Charger with the max power of 19.2 kWh
- The Ultium Home V2H Enablement Kit with a discharge rate with peak 9.6 kW of power back into the home when desired
- A PowerBank storage unit.
- The smaller PowerBank stores 10.6 kWh and discharges 5 kW.
- The larger unit can store 17.7 kWh and discharge 10 kW.
The bundle includes an inverter, a home hub, and a backup battery with dark start capability. If the main power grid fails, the dark start battery will reset the system. The Ultium Home V2H Bundle is a great option for EV owners who do not require additional storage. In the package, you will find the PowerShift Charger along with the Ultium Home V2H Enablement Kit.
The Ultium Home Energy Storage system is designed for homeowners who do not own an electric vehicle but still desire efficient energy storage for their households. By combining the PowerBank, inverter, and home hub, this device can easily connect to a household solar panel array. SunPower, GM’s partner, is capable of installing the innovative Ultium solutions and sun-oriented panels to aid customers who require assistance in integrating solar technology into their homes.
By communicating with GM Energy Cloud, owners can easily control the distribution of energy through an app, making it readily available when and where needed. GM Energy has not yet released any information regarding pricing and delivery details. It’s highly likely that the Ultium Home products will arrive not long after the first shipment of the 2024 Chevrolet Silverado EV RST hits the market.
