Greenhouses provide a safe place for plant species and these days sustainable methods of cultivation are on the rise. With the same aim, Heliospectra LED to enhance Tomatoworld’s sustainable cultivation and carry out collaborative field tests to improvise the system.
Recently, Heliospectra and Tomatoworld joined hands to enhance the lightning system. Heliospectra is the leader in smart LED lights technology and Tomatoworld, well-known information & education center and field lab in the Netherlands. Tomatoworld wanted to install a new state-of-art LED grow light system for greenhouses and has been looking for light architects.
Finally, the search ended on Heliospectra’s MITRA X LED fixtures. They offer a wide range of wattages like 40%, 60%, 80%, and 90% red with and without far-red. These fixtures are capable to achieve 3.8 μmol/J based on the spectrum.
Further, to enhance energy efficiency and to provide natural light, Tomatoworld chose R80 spectrum with 10% green. This will also ensure excellent visibility to the visitors. Moreover, these lights will not restrict potential research opportunities performed with robots, sensors, and cameras.
Another selection was helioCORE™, a wireless LoRA-based system. It will not only enable precise wireless LED control but also reduce installation costs and energy consumption significantly. Thus, at large it will reduce their ecological footprint.
Using PV Cells for commercial hydroponic greenhouse: a feasibility study suggests.
Tomatoworld can also create customized lighting zones and individual fixture control. Moreover, they can integrate with local weather forecasts via DLI controller for optimal energy management.
The partnership encompasses a 3-year commitment to collaborative field tests for optimizing greenhouse operations. Main initiatives include the following:
- Improving light penetration with wireless sensors in the canopy.
- Testing new biosensor by Heliospectra
- Monitoring fluorescence yield and light saturation to manage light
Ultimately, Heliospectra LED to enhance Tomatoworld’s sustainable cultivation will lead to energy savings. This will be analyzed by looking at DLI control and real weather forecasts and pricing.
