Current is referred to as electricity, or the flow of electrical energy measured in amperes in a conductor. In simpler terms, the flow of an electric charge between two places is known as an electric current.

What are the Types of Current?

Electric currents come in two different varieties-

  • Direct currents (DC), which flow in a single direction like a battery, are the earliest type.
  • Alternating currents (AC) are the second type and they periodically change direction. Transformers enable us to change the voltage of the AC. Due to its higher adaptability, AC can be transported effectively through high-voltage national networks before being stepped down for usage in our homes and places of employment.

Where Does Current Come From?

An electric current is a natural occurrence. Lightning, static electricity, solar winds, and polar auroras are examples of its occurrence. By rotating a rotor in a generator or utilizing solar panels to collect energy from the sun, you can produce an electric current. Although there are technologies to store a lot of electricity, you cannot produce as much as you would like. So, in order to meet your needs, you must generate it just in time.

How is Current Measured and What is its Unit?

The quantity of free electrons crossing a specific point in a circuit during a second is how electric current is measured. As a result, we can draw the conclusion that electric current is the flow of charge per second.

The coulomb is the SI unit of charge (not current). A current of one ampere can transport one coulomb of electricity.

The ampere is the SI (International System of Units) unit of current (A). The letter I stands for a continuous current. I stand for current that varies over time.
