Solar Quarter organized the 3rd Edition of the Solar Week 2024: Conference & Awards. The event took place on 28 August 2024 at the Sheraton Riyadh Hotel and Towers. Panel discussions with influential Saudi Arabia’s solar energy sector were the focus of the event. They discussed the country’s renewable energy goals and ways to innovatively increase the size of solar energy projects.

The First Panel: Leadership Roundtable: Driving Transformation in Utility Solar Sector

It explored critical topics concerning the rapid expansion of Saudi Arabia’s solar capacity. The panelists are aiming to reach the target of 27.3 GW of renewable capacity by 2024. The bidding processes initiated were important for the projects like Sakaka solar power plant.

Mr Quentin Dominique Blommaert, Head of the Hydrogen Diplomacy Office Riyadh at Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH moderated the panel. Other industry leaders were also present.

Further discussions were focussed on necessary technical innovations for achieving the projected Compound Annual Growth Rate (CAGR) of more than 51% by 2029 in the Saudi Arabia Solar Energy Market. Other topics discussed were modernizing the power grid, the potential of robotic cleaning technologies, and enhancing solar storage for PV panels.

The Second Panel: Strategic Forum: Driving Net Zero Innovations in Energy Landscape

This panel deals with the long-term commitments of the Kingdom to achieving net-zero emissions by 2060. This aim is like a cornerstone of the Saudi Green Initiative (SGI). Integrating the Circular Carbon Economy (CCE) framework with other SGI initiatives was the main point of discussion in this panel.

The panel was moderated by Mr Mustafa AlHakeem, Energy and Power Expert. Industry leaders like Mr Abdulrahman M. Abdulaal, Head of Green Hydrogen – KSA at ACWA Power and Mr Marcus H. Schrauf, CEO of Renewables at Fas Energy also made notable contributions to the panel.
